I’m counting down the days to Roots Tech 2016 and I hope you are, too! Keep reading to the end because I am giving away one 3-day pass ticket (value of $249) to attend next year’s Roots Tech, to be held on Feb 3-6, 2016 in Salt Lake City. Who is going to be the lucky winner?
But first, let me share why I LOVED Roots Tech (here’s a Sneak peek into my time at Roots Tech last year). Attending the largest family history conference in the world last year revitalized my passion for discovering and creating family history. The conference caters to all interest levels in family history – from the expert genealogist to the mom creating chatbooks from her instagram feed (PS – use the code KEEPM988 to get your first chatbook free!).
Here are the four things I loved most about Roots Tech last year.
Family Discover Day was the perfect intro into family history for my 8 year old daughter. My one hope was that she would feel the excitement that comes from discovering who you are and were you come from. Lily adored the talks by Al Carraway Fox and Noelle Pikus Pace and the visit to the Family Discovery Center was a highlight as well! Read more about why our day together had me in happy tears here:
Roots Tech got me up to date with the latest in Family History technology. My kids aren’t thrilled about pedigree charts, but I did get their attention when I used the Memories App by Family Search to create a Family History relay at our Bear Lake Family Reunion. Check out how easy it was and how much fun we had here:
Roots Tech challenged me and exceeded my expectations. I come from family history lines that go way back. I’ve been searching for names to take to the temple for years. When the temple challenge was extended, I wondered how I was going to do it. With the help of the Family Search app, I had several names to take within a month! I discovered that there is always more to do. It’s been a joy taking names to the temple. Helping friends and family find their own names to take to the temple has been just as incredible!
Roots Tech reminded me that individual stories are so important! While attending Roots Tech I was inspired by the likes of first lady Laura Bush and singer Donny Osmond (and this year’s line up of speakers is just as incredible!) Hearing their family stories encouraged me to share more of my family stories with my own children. I did this through Family History BINGO and we had a blast!
Are you excited for Roots Tech yet! Day passes as well as conference tickets are available here. Be sure to follow Roots Tech on Facebook to stay up to date with the latest exciting announcements!

I love the stories my dad tells about his mom since she died when he was young. She was an amazing lady I can’t wait to meet her in heaven!

Looking forward to meeting many new people, face to face, instead of on the web.

I have been wanting to go to Rootstech since they began, but have never been able to. Hoping to make it in 2016! My goal is to be a professional genealogist and share the joy that comes from connecting with your ancestors.

My dad’s side of the family came to America from Lithuania during the late 1800’s. For about 8 years I struggled with finding any information about which port they arrived in. A few years ago when all the records between Ancestry and the LDS church were free, I was able to spend unlimited amounts of time searching passenger lists. I finally found the 2 ships that his family traveled over on, and the information on the passenger list detailed the city they were from and their occupations.

My favorite family history story is how my grandma & grandad met, & also how hard my grandmas on both sides worked for their families after they lost their young husbands!
