My kids are quite vocal about their love of animals. They get it from their Dad! Although I am kind to animals, my kids just can’t get enough of them. Spring is one of their favorite times of year because that means Baby Animal Days! This year it is May 6th and 7th courtesy of Utah State University Botanical Center.

Here’s a sneak peek from my friends at My Mommy Style into what is in store for you at Baby Animal Days! You can see just how excited Lily is to check out the baby animals at .24 seconds. She’s the in the red coat holding the baby chick.

This year there are TWICE the number of baby animals. Come meet baby pigs, goats, lambs, ponies, calves, baby chicks, rabbits, and maybe even a yak!

Don’t miss out on the other fun activities as well – horse rides and miniature train rides. Your first ride on both are covered with your ticket! We spent several hours at Baby Animal Days last year and my kids still talk about it.

We’ve been going to Cherry Hill for over 30 years for our annual family reunion. Every year, I try to think of new, fun ways to keep the kiddos entertained. This year we brought Corn Hole and customized BYU bean bags (which my husband absolutely loved). Imagine my surprise when it kept EVERYONE entertained. From the grandpas to the toddlers – everyone loved Corn Hole. The kids spent hours with it and we even had relatives from neighboring camp sites come over to play.

So here are five reasons why you have go to get one of these for your next party!

1. It’s easy. The youngest kids are a-ok with just tossing the bean bags into the hole and the older kids and adults can play more competitively if they like. The concept is simple – you play until a player or team scores 21 points, with a bean bag landing on-board being worth 1 point and a bean bag entering the “cornhole” scoring 3 points. The boards are placed 27 feet apart. After those technicalities – it is all fun!

2. It’s for all ages. We had ALL AGES playing Corn Hole over the weekend. The toddlers thought it was a hit and the grandpas even played a round or two. There was even a tournament with the young adults.

3. It’s customizable. I selected the BYU bean bags for my husband – it was such a fun surprise! And it’s hard to surprise my husband! They have many more sports teams available as well as a variety of colors and patterns. (Okay ladies, think Christmas presents for your husbands!) AllCornHole.com even has a line of wedding bean bags. How fun would that be for kids at a wedding?

4. It’s perfect in a variety of situations. Like I mentioned above, Corn Hole is an easy crowd-pleaser for a multitude of events. Need something to occupy children at wedding – get the chevron or burlap chic bags and dress up the board! Having a tail gating party or watching the big game with friends – get it themed to your favorite sports team! Need an easy activity for your children’s school carnival – AllCornHole.com has got you covered! It kept all of us entertained at our camping family reunion.

5. It’s reusable. You can use your corn hole for all of the above listed situations. The boards are sturdy and the bags have a one year warranty. Believe me – they are durable! The bags survived our group of toddlers and a dusty camp site.

Our weekend experience made us a fan of Corn Hole. I liked that it was a game that all ages could play. Too often activities are only for certain ages. This brought our family together and we definitely had a great time!

Have you played Corn Hole?

What are your favorite games to play together as a family?

Corn Hole provided me with customized bags for the purpose of this review. All the fun we had and my opinions are my own!

When we first put an offer on our home in April the lawn was still lush and green. Fast forward to the end of May when we closed and the lawn was looking pretty dismal. The summer heat had already began to take its toll! You better believe I went to the Internet in search of lawn care tips and tricks to bring my yard back!

Loved finding infographics and advice like this from companies like Nature’s Seed. I had no idea that corn gluten meal could be used as a natural weed and feed! Definitely going to give that a try next spring! Thanks to tips like these our lawn is looking much greener … now to take care of those weeds and unpack all the boxes inside! At least the lawn is taken care of!

What is your favorite lawn care tip?

Back during Love Week I told you that I would blog about the big date night I was planning. Here it is!

I decided that my husband and I needed to try something new for our date nights … and maybe even actually take a date night. Typically we get stuck in the dinner and a movie rut. Father’s Day provided the perfect opportunity to surprise him. I arranged for a babysitter from 3:30-8:30 pm (a big things for me. I hate leaving my little people more than a few hours).

Clas Ropes Course in Provo had a Father’s Day special complete with four hours on the course, a BBQ with smores, and an optional canoe ride down the Provo River. I sprung for it all. Keep in mind – I had just run my first 5K earlier that day. I must have been feeling adventurous!

We arrived just a teensy bit late and they put us in a group with another couple and a Dad with his two preteen kids. The first few activities were typical leadership/bonding/problem solving activities. You know, the one where you both have a rope tied around your wrists and you have to figure out how to get untangled from each other without taking them off? I swear I have done it a dozen times at Girls Camp, but we still couldn’t figure it out. No worries, it was much more fun doing it with my husband!

For the next activity, we had to swing from one platform to the next. All of us. Without touching the ground. But first we had to figure out how to get the rope over to us. Johnny saved the day by sacrificing his shoes and using the laces/shoes to lasso the rope over to us. This is where the real fun began. I danced A LOT growing up, but typical sports were not my thing. I am missing whatever type of coordination I needed to be successful. Like the coordination needed to swing across an open space holding onto a rope.

I figured that I was an adult now, how hard could it be? So I grasped the rope, took a running leap, and landed right on my thigh not too far from the first platform. For my second attempt, I stood on my husband’s back (lucky man), and got a higher grip before I leapt across. I almost made it. In fact, the other guy in our group tried to pull me in, but I ended up pulling HIM in instead. Oops. Sorry random man. Our boy scoutish leader took pity on me and allowed me to stay on the platform. Whew!

Next, we had to figure out how to get our team members across a series of boards and stumps without touching the ground. It involved moving the boards around and was quite tricky!

My hubby is on the far right helping the little boy to safety.

And then came our favorite part! The part I was worried we would never get to because it took us so long to finish the bonding activities.

First we took a ride on this giant swing. You held on to a rope and your team mates hoisted you to the top. The hardest part was holding on until the very top. It was such a rush when you let go.

Next we went rock climbing. I am still attempting to figure out how people balance their feet on the itty bitty rocks.

And here we are are sitting and waiting for our turn to go down the zip line. Lucky for us, you get to climb to the top of the zip line pole. I saw lots of kiddos doing it and even a cute Grandma named Earlene doing it. It took Earlene awhile to get up there, but I figured if she could do it, so could I. So I scaled a wooden pole balancing my self on these much too small metal staples. But it was worth it because the zipline was lots of fun!

To conclude the evening, we canoed down the Provo River to Utah Lake. BEAUTIFUL! It was so relaxing and our arms definitely got a work out!

My honey on the dock.

All in all – a fantastic evening. What did I learn?
1. My kiddos will survive for an evening without me.
2. It’s good to try new things and step out of your comfort zone.
3. Anything is fun with my Johnny.
4. My body can do hard things.
5. It’s worth it to plan date nights!
