Almost a week ago I challenged myself to get out and get moving more with my kids. Boy oh boy have we tried! In fact, as we speak my three year old is out in her rain boots digging holes in the ground as snow flakes fall around her. It’s a beautiful sight. She is happy. It is worth it.
I would be out with her instead of watching from the window if my 1 year old wasn’t fast asleep.
I’ve learned several things in this journey so far.
1. It pays to be prepared. I try to keep my kiddo’s outside gear in one place so that when the moment is right we can be right out the door instead of allowing the grumpies to sneak in while we search for socks or mittens.
I learned that lesson on our California vacation last month. Boy howdy was I happy to have Lily’s rain boots and a change of clothes after we hiked through Fern Canyon – a gorgeous place unlike anything I have ever seen. They filmed portions of Jurassic Park there. It was amazing! Having her rain boots on enabled her to go splashing through the water and have a ball.
2. It is fun to say “yes.” I think my daughter was shocked to today when she asked me if she could go outside and I said yes. Million dollar smile followed right behind that look of shock.
