Since attending the Power of Moms Retreat, I have working on being more in tune with my children. It’s too easy to get wrapped up in what I have planned and miss the opportunity for moments that are even better!
Today I pulled out a new coloring set for them to work on. John and I substituted in Lily’s Primary class on Sunday and I noticed how many of the children were coloring in the lines and so focused. My Lily was coloring as quickly as she could with no rhyme or reason (John later told me that she colors fast because they get to play with toys as soon as they are done!) I thought I would give her more coloring opportunities at home. She colored for a moment and then went on to other things. I was happy when she returned to her markers a little later and then I discovered this …
My first reaction … oh my word what a mess! And then I laughed because I got exactly what I asked for. I had been wanting to see her color more focused and she was definitely more focused on making each finger a different color! After she finished and we took the picture, she decided to wash it all off on her own anyway. No harm done!
Another of my goals from the retreat was to include the children more in my daily tasks of cooking and cleaning. I was really impressed by April’s, one of the organizers, passion for working with her children. I’ve been wanting to make pizza with the kids for awhile, but just hadn’t had the time to make the dough until I saw this great idea! A tortilla crust is such a great idea!
It was so fast and easy! Lily did a great job and did everything on her own except for putting it in the oven. Cort even helped with the cheese! It was fun and they actually ate more than if I had made it!
