One of the best results of our summer of service so far is watching my five year old daughter discover how many things she can do for herself. Lily has always been very alert and attentive to details. Since our focus on service began this summer, I have noticed her becoming more aware of ways that she can serve without me asking or reminding.
Last week we were back to school shopping and Lily noticed several carts that had been left in the parking lot. I loved it when she told me, “Service with a smile, mom. Time to take the carts in.”
One of the projects we have been working on is collecting recyclables for the Cans for Humanity program. We saved any of our own pop cans as well as collected from family, friends, and neighbors. Cans for Humanity takes the money from recycled aluminum and puts it toward building a home for a family in need. If you are in Orem you can drop them off at the Habitat Restore on Orem Boulevard. Check out their web-site for more drop off sites in the area.
Do you recycle cans?
What service do you like to do with your children?
