My husband suggested we focus on finances this month and I was excited to jump on board. I coupon, garden, buy second hand, etc., but there is always room to do even better. I’m a little late in posting this so we’ll be continuing these goals on into August. Time to pinch those pennies!
Financial Goals
1. Take lunch every day to work (John)
Vending machine purchases and $6 sandwiches add up quickly so he is going to be focusing on packing his own lunch more and I am going to be focusing on making more meals with leftovers.
2. No spend grocery week
We have quite the stock pile of certain items – oats, rice, beans, etc. Time to make men plans and use what we have!
3.ย Track spending on Mint.com every day
Love my Mint.com account. Unfortunately, I haven’t checked it very often so it hasn’t been much use to us. This month I am going to update it every day that we have spent money to make sure that our purchases are labeled correctly. This way I will have a better idea of what we are really spending in each category.ย
4. Earn $200 additional income before I do any spending beyond the bare basics
This has worked really well for me in the past. It is just too easy for me to click that “submit order” button online and I love me some amazon.com two day shipping. This goal helps me to focus more on making money since I am already pretty good at making the most of the money we have already.
5. Define and prioritize goals – setting aside more money toward the down payment for a house.
I am thinking it is time for a goal poster to put right on my front door so every time I am tempted to go out to eat I’ll be reminded of what I really want to spend money on! A new house, a fun family vacation, you know the drill!
What are your financial goals?

I like your goal about bring in $200 a month before spending out. What all do you do to bring in extra income?

I like the idea of putting a goal poster up. Sometimes all we need in the midst of a temptation is a reminder of what is true, what is most important!

Hi Tara! Thanks for your comment, and for giving me the link to your blog!
I love this post. You are so smart to sit down and make goals together! I did a budget plan a while back that never even got past that small piece of paper:( but you've inspired me to do it again and to follow through with it! Thanks!
P.s your header is so cute!!!! How did you make yours?

For setting and tracking money goals, you may want to check out a goal setting app called GoalsOnTrack, a very nicely built web app designed for tracking goals and todo lists, and supports time tracking too. It's clear, focused, easy to navigate.
