It’s Day 3 of Money Saving Mom’s 30-Day House Cleaning Project. Today’s project is the Master Bedroom and Crystal has great tips to get us started!
- Set the timer for 20 minutes and pick up and put away all items that are out of place. (Bonus: find 7 items to get rid of.)
- Pull out any items under the bed that donโt below under the bed and make the bed (wash sheets/bedding, if needed).
- Vacuum/sweep the room. (Bonus: use an attachment on the vacuum to vacuum around the baseboards and vacuum under the bed.)
- Clean fingerprints on the windows.
- Bonus: Spot-clean the carpets and walls.
- Youโre done!
Today was the first day that I had to modify slightly for the needs of my family. Before we cleaned there was a fast and easy, but oh-so important project that needed to be finished.
Securing the children’s new dresser to the wall.
Please – take a moment and double check that your furniture is secured to the wall – especially if you have little climbers running around like I do. Every year there are so many heart-breaking stories of children dying or being seriously injured after a dresser/TV/large piece of furniture falls over on them. It makes me cringe to even think about it.
Securing furniture to the wall is fairly simple to do (if you would like a how-to post, just leave a comment and I’ll have my husband do a tutorial!) My husband was able to get it done in a half hour. You can use L-brackets from Home Depot/Lowe’s/Wal-mart or get furniture wall straps online if you prefer. Add this to your baby proof checklist or better yet, do it today! It is worth the piece of mind.
Once securing the dresser to the wall was accomplished, it was on to surface cleaning the master bedroom! We were in a rush this morning to get out the door to enjoy Spring Break, but I had just enough time to change the sheets and remake our bed. I also folded and put away all the clean laundry that had been sitting on our chair.
What I am loving most about this challenge is starting each day with an area of the house deep cleaned. Is it just me or does anyone else get a little giddy when they see a space that has been clean for longer than a day (or five minutes if you have littles like me!)
How do you baby proof your home? What is on your baby proof checklist?
Have you done anything fun for Spring Break?

We secured all our furniture to the wall a few months ago. It was definitely one of those things that we procrastinated way too long to do. My son is now 18 months and I’m really glad we did it because he is climbing on EVERYTHING. Great post and great reminder!
Have a great day!
