Now that we are house hunting, I am finally allowing myself to take a peek at decorating styles and this Downton Abbey-inspired design by House of Antique Hardware caught my eye. When my husband and I were first married we talked about having a home where each room was themed after a different country and the idea still intrigues me! As college sophomores, some of my closest friends and I went on a British Literary Tour for the summer. From Jane Austen’s Chawton Cottage to Chatsworth in Derbyshire, I fell head over heals with the beauty of the English country side.
When the Downton Abbey craze began here in America, I was quickly swept up in the drama. If I ever return to England, Highclere Castle, where Downton Abbey is filmed, will definitely be on my list of places to visit. The House of Antique Hardware has put together some Downton-inspired design trends that I am pinning for our new home. One room that caught my eye is the French-inspired drawing room of Downton Abbey.
These products are available on their site: 1. French Crystal Chandelier; 2. Queen Anne Ceiling Medallion; 3. Victorian Picture Hanging Kit; 4. Regency Picture Rail Hook; 5. Rococo Wall Sconce; 6. Queensway Cabinet Knob; 7. Scroll Pattern Rim Lock; 8. Queensway Drawer Pull; 9. Fairfax Table Lamp
I am especially in love with the Queensway Drawer Pull and Cabinet Knob. Besides the Satin 24K gold, the pull and knob are also available in an antique pewter or an dark brass that I love. Soon after I graduated college, I discovered these amazing tiles at a flea market in Jackson Hole. The tiles came from the old Spori Building on the Ricks College campus where I had worked for the newspaper my freshman year. When we move, I am excited to display them in our master bedroom and I think the Queensway decor items will be a lovely match.
What do you think would match better – the antique pewter or the dark brass? Decisions, decisions!
You can check out more Downton-inspired design here including pieces reminiscent of the leading ladies jewelry and some lovely items from the downstairs kitchen!

My house is kind of country-ish, so I am not sure Downton Abbey decor would fit in my house. Maybe when I retire & move to a house without little kids that destroy everything……

How cute! I don’t watch this show, but I know a lot of people who do. I think they’d love to see how they can design their home around their favorite show!

I love the older style stuff. I wish I had a house that would showcase such beautiful works of art. I love those chandeliers.

I think my husband I love a modern finish. We don’t mind some minor traditional elements but this might be a bit too traditional for our taste. 🙂

Oh wow, this is all absolutely stunning. Someday, I will live in such beauty and intricacy… someday… 😉

I personally prefer the antique pewter over the dark brass. You must be so excited to house hunt and design up your dream house! The downtown abbey look is a bit to cold for me … I like warm and rustic colors, especially in the kitchen. However, our apartment has a more modern and simple look …. but we try to warm things up and make it a little quirky with the accessories (pillow cases, paintings, mirrors, etc..).
